Council Tax appeals

There are different types of Council Tax appeals, the main appeals are:

  • Council Tax valuation band - you disagree with the Council Tax band your property has been given
  • Council Tax liability - you think you either shouldn’t be paying the full amount of Council Tax or you shouldn’t be paying it at all.

We do not set Council Tax bands for properties, these are determined by the Valuation Office Agency.

Your Council Tax bill shows which band your home has been placed in. You can challenge this if you think it is wrong, but you will need to continue to pay your Council Tax while you do this.
