We are ensuring our market towns are clean, vibrant and safe places to shop and want to see footfall return to pre-Covid levels as quickly as possible.
Working closely with town councils, traders and the county highways department, we have developed plans to make this happen.
Our schemes strike a difficult balance between the need to keep people safe and our desire to make our shopping areas as welcoming as possible.
Measures include:
- Installation of hand sanitising stations and social distancing signage.
- Installation of extra seating and planters.
- Extra bike racks to encourage more people to cycle.
- Temporary changes to parking and, in some instances, temporary traffic restrictions.
Where temporary traffic restrictions are put in place residents and businesses will still have the access they need while at the same time allowing pedestrians to walk with safety over a wider area of the high street.
