Statement of Community Involvement

Every local planning authority is required by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 to have in place a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), which is a procedural document that sits alongside the Local Plan.

The SCI sets out how and when local communities and stakeholder bodies can get involved in the preparation and revision of the councils’ Local Plan documents. It also describes the councils’ processes and expectations in relation to community involvement and consultation on planning applications and major development proposals.
