Robert Kett returns to Wymondham

Robert Kett returned to Wymondham at the weekend to celebrate the 470th anniversary of his famous rebellion.

Once again, he was surrounded by hundreds of followers who all enjoyed an interactive day with medieval antics and the modern-day excitement of funfair rides, craft stalls and delicious food and drink.

Kett’s Fun Day and Fayre, organised by South Norfolk Council, celebrated Wymondham’s very own hero Robert Kett who in 1549 led a rebellion against the injustices faced by the peasants.

The Black Knight Historical performers recreated a Tudor Camp, allowing visitors to interact with characters from the 16th century and learn what life was like in this turbulent period.

Robert Kett delivered the famous speech he made to the peasants before they marched on Norwich at the start of the Rebellion.

South Norfolk Cabinet member Kay Mason Billig said: “This has been a fantastic day and it’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and finding out more about the history of the town. If you want to know more about what happened to Robert Kett, visit Wymondham and take our Heritage Trail.”

Wymondham’s Heritage Trail is a free interactive augmented reality walking tour that you can download to your smart phone. You can download the app on Google Play or the App store for free and go to the Wymondham museum to try out the seated virtual reality experience free of charge.
