Restaurateurs treat key workers to morale boosting scones

A restaurant in Loddon has been supporting our key workers by baking and delivering thousands of scones for free.

When the Country went into lockdown, Robin and Elena Wetherall who run The Terrace in Loddon High Street decided to keep their kitchen running to support our critical workers.

Robin said: “We wanted to do our bit. When we heard that we had to go into lockdown we thought what could we do to help? We decided to bake scones for our local NHS workers and asked people to nominate key workers through our Facebook page. Last week we baked over 600 scones.”

The couple are now baking up to 300 scones a day and have delivered them to hundreds of key workers in the area, including those at the James Paget Hospital, Beauchamp House Residential Home in Chedgrave, Chedgrave Community Nursing, Saxon House Loddon, Chet Valley Medical Practice, Hollies Nursery Loddon, The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, the ambulance centres in Potter Heigham, Gorleston and Beccles, chemists, sorting offices, funeral parlours, Panel Graphics in Loddon (manufacturing PPE), medical centres, police stations, district nurses, Clacton house care home and many more.

South Norfolk Councillor Kay Mason-Billig said: “It’s fantastic that Robin and Elena have used their resources to help make our critical staff feel appreciated at such a stressful and difficult time. Their extraordinary acts of kindness are boosting morale of those on the frontline when they need it most. They are simply wonderful and deserve to be recognised.”

The restaurant’s Facebook page is crammed with scores of messages of thanks from key workers, delighted to receive the tasty treats. Robin and Elena would like to hear of more local good causes that might like to receive some scones and can be contacted via their Facebook page.

Locals are also enjoying Robin and Elena’s delicious scones, as the couple are selling them outside their restaurant on Loddon High Street.
