Any waste which is produced during the operation of a business is classed as commercial waste. Businesses have a legal duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to ensure that the waste they produce is transferred to a registered waste carrier.

Whoever you chose to take away your commercial waste, should supply you with a transfer note. It is a legal requirement for a business to keep this documentation for two years.

Businesses also have a duty to ensure that waste is kept and stored securely and is not spilling onto the highway.

Businesses should not be disposing of their commercial waste in domestic bins and should not be burning waste.
