Finding and commenting on a planning application

You can find details of current and determined planning applications and comment on any planning applications during the 21 day consultation period, either through our online planning system or in writing.

You can track and comment on an application by:

  1. Finding the planning application
    Use our simple search to locate the planning application you wish to comment on. If you have a reference number you can enter this (for example, 2016/0001).
  2. Registering to comment
    Once you have found the planning application, you will see a tab near the top of the page called 'make a comment'. You will need to register or login before making a comment. Creating an account will also allow you to save searches and track applications. Please note any submitted comments, whether online, by email, or post, will be published on this website for everyone to see, and we reserve the right to remove any comments which are considered defamatory or offensive.
  3. Making a comment
    If the statutory period for consultation of 21 days has expired, the link will no longer be available. However, if the status is ‘pending consideration’, you can comment on the application by email or by post to the Planning Team, South Norfolk Council, South Norfolk House, Cygnet Court, Long Stratton, Norwich, NR15 2XE quoting the application number in any correspondence. Please include your postal address as we will not show your e mail address.
    Please note that applications can be determined any time after the 21 day period has expired and there is no guarantee that late comments will be taken into account.

You can also take dimensions from submitted drawings using the Adobe Measuring Tool that allows you to measure distances, angles and areas of objects in PDF planning application documents. This will help inform your feedback on applications where you would like to put forward your comments. You will need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC which you can download for free.  

How to keep your details safe online

If you are worried about your contact details and signature appearing on our website, complete the following when you comment on planning applications:

  1. Print your name instead of adding your signature to any documents and initial the printed name
  2. Send emailed comments as an attachment, so that only the attachment can be published (and not your email address)
  3. Do not include your telephone number if you do not want people to know it
  4. If you still feel this is not enough to protect your identity, you can send your comments to your local District Councillor, who will raise them as appropriate, so they can be taken into account when the application is considered. Please note that where you submit your views in writing to your local District Councillor, this is described as “lobbying” and the local member will be obliged to pass these on to the planning officer, where they will be published on the website.
