Greater Norwich Local Plan

We are working with Broadland District Council, Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council to prepare the Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP).

The GNLP will build on the long established joint working arrangements for Greater Norwich, which have delivered the current Joint Core Strategy (JCS) for the area. The JCS plans for the housing and job needs of the area to 2026 and the GNLP will ensure that these needs continue to be met to 2038.

Like the JCS, the GNLP will include strategic policies to guide future development and plans to protect the environment. It will look to ensure that delivery of development is done in a way which promotes sustainability and the effective functioning of the whole area.

In addition to strategic planning policy the GNLP will also allocate land for development.  However, although the Local Plan is for the Greater Norwich as a whole, it still takes into account the unique requirements of the individual partners and South Norfolk is the most rural of the authorities.  To reflect this, South Norfolk Council is carrying out further work to find suitable housing sites for housing in smaller villages.  A separate South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Site Allocations document is being developed by South Norfolk Council for the village cluster sites in South Norfolk and will come forward in due course.  The timescales for this are not yet known.

The 'Stage C Regulation 18 Draft Strategy and Site Allocations' document is subject to public consultation until 5.00pm on 16th March 2020.  Additional potential development sites located within village clusters in both Broadland and South Norfolk may be submitted during this consultation.  Sites of between 0.5 hectare and 1 hectare (to accommodate a minimum of 12 dwellings) are particularly welcomed for submission.  New sites should be submitted to the GNLP Team via the form that is available to download on the GNLP website.  Full details of the current consultation, as well as details of the 'Stage A Regulation 18 Site Proposals and Growth Options' and the 'Stage B Regulation 18 New, Revised and Small Sites Consultation' for the Greater Norwich Local Plan can be found on the GNLP website, www.greaternorwichlocalplan.org.uk

If you have any questions regarding the Greater Norwich Local Plan, please contact a member of the GNLP Team on 01603 306603 or by email, gnlp@norfolk.gov.uk.  The contact details for the separate South Norfolk village clusters document are 01508 533805 or email, lp@s-norfolk.gov.uk.

The GNLP Consultation is live until 5pm on 16 March.  To have your say follow this link.
