The Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) is a scheme which helps people who are getting either Housing Benefit, Local Housing Allowance, or the Housing Element of Universal Credit but do not receive the full amount.
The Discretionary Housing Fund (DHF) is a local scheme which helps towards Council Tax payments. You do not have to be in receipt of support to make a claim.
The scheme helps those who have special circumstances and need extra help. These payments are made at our discretion, the money available is strictly limited and each case is considered individually.
DHP/DHF is not a benefit entitlement, which means that in some circumstances we may not be able to help. If we are able to help it will be on a short term basis. We will make our advice services available to you as part of any help we can give and we may contact you to arrange an appointment before we make a decision.
If you would like to make an application, please complete and return the application form.
If your Housing Benefit is being reduced because you have a spare bedroom, taking in a lodger may help. If you would like to discuss how we could help you please contact us
