A holiday play scheme run by South Norfolk Council at Wymondham Leisure Centre has been graded as ‘good’ following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Kids Camp which has been registered with Ofsted since 2008 is open Monday to Friday during school holidays for children aged between five and fifteen. The scheme offers a range of activities including swimming, Trampoline, football, arts and crafts and can be booked as either full or half day sessions.
South Norfolk Council Cabinet member Yvonne Bendle said. “Kids Camp has been a great success and averages more than 50 children a day during the school holidays. The team work hard to ensure that there are plenty of activities available to keep the children busy and entertained and this result is a great reward for their efforts.”

The Ofsted inspector found that:

“Staff create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They plan a wide range of interesting activities and introduce new experiences. Visitors with specialist skills are invited to come in and share their knowledge with the children. Children are very eager to engage and talk animatedly about what they enjoy during their time at camp.

“Staff help children to develop positive attitudes and good behaviour. Relationships between children of different ages are strong. Older children are willing to support and guide younger children, which has a positive impact on their emotional well-being."

“Staff maintain good levels of communication with parents. They keep parents informed about what children do and enjoy at the camp and forthcoming activities.”

“Staff work well together and have a good understanding of their role in complementing children's learning and development. They join in with the children's activities and demonstrate a genuine interest and enthusiasm for their work.”

Councillor Bendle added. “We realise how important it is to keep kids active during the holidays and the importance of learning through play. Being rated as good is a real achievement but the whole team will be doing their best to make Kids Camp even better.”

Kids Camp is also available at Long Stratton Leisure Centre and this holiday, for the first time at Diss High School.
