Coronavirus planning

South Norfolk Council’s Emergency Committee held an informal meeting to discuss the Coronavirus and the Council’s plans to deal with the evolving situation.

The UK Chief Medical Officer has raised the risk to the public from low to moderate and the committee met to underline the community leadership role that the Council would play and how it would support parish and town councils and other local organisations should the current situation escalate.

The Council already has plans in place setting out how it will react in response to an emergency to ensure that essential services are maintained. These plans are constantly updated in line with advice from Public Health England and central government.
The council also has plans in place to ensure that residents and businesses have access to the most up to date information. Central Government has issued a national information campaign that is running across the United Kingdom. This informs residents about how they can help protect themselves and others and help stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), by practicing good respiratory and hand hygiene.

Current advice from central government on how to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

• wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
• always wash your hands when you get home or into work
• use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
• cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
• put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
• try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
• do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
