To help improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, we give the Healthier Options NORfolk Award (HONOR) to caterers who provide healthy options on their menus. We run the award scheme with Norwich City Council, Breckland Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council, working with Norfolk County Council Public Health and Norfolk Trading Standards.
How can I get an HONOR Award?
Any catering business with a food hygiene rating of three or more can apply for an award.
Caterers can take steps to provide healthier food choices for their customers such as offering a choice of boiled or mashed potatoes as an alternative to chips, extra vegetables in servings, fruit based desserts and wholemeal bread choices with sandwiches.
Caterers can also prepare the food in healthier ways by reducing salt, trimming fat from meat before cooking, substituting unsaturated fats for saturated fats, and allowing customers to add as much or as little as they wish of sauces, dressings and fat spreads.
How to apply for an HONOR Award
To apply, complete the Healthier Options Assessment Form and send with a copy of your recent menu by email or by post to the Food and Safety Team, South Norfolk Council, South Norfolk House, Cygnet Court, Long Stratton, Norwich, NR15 2XE.
