Equalities

Equality and diversity

We strive to provide a service which is equally accessible to all our customers. The Equality Act 2010 requires all local authorities to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). This means that we must have due regard of the need to:

  1. Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
  2. Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
  3. Foster good relations between people who a share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not share it.

There are nine protected characteristics contained within the Equality Act - age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership.

The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 requires public authorities to publish information to demonstrate how they comply with this duty.

Please view the documents below for further information of how we comply with the Equality Act 2010.
