Summary

If you are 60 or over, or registered disabled, you can enjoy free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England with the National Bus Pass. Further information about the scheme is given below. Who is eligible?

  • Residents aged 60 or over;
  • Disabled people.

Entitlement

  • We issue the new National Bus Pass free to anyone who is eligible for the scheme and permanently living in Norfolk.
  • The pass entitles the holder to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England. Off peak hours are 9:30am until 11pm Monday to Friday, and all day weekends and bank holidays.
  • A local enhancement for residents of Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk, and South Norfolk Councils, entitles pass holders to free travel on any journey that starts in these areas between 8:30am and 11pm weekdays, and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. For travel within the Norwich City Council boundaries from Monday to Friday, the start time is 9.30am.

How to apply

  • Complete the application form, making sure that you attach a recent, passport-sized photograph of yourself.
  • Applications can be made by post to the address at the foot of this page, by personal visit to one of the Council Information Centres or at one of the following Post Offices:

  • With your application you must provide proof of identity, proof of residency and proof of eligibility. A minimum of two separate documents are required as proof (i.e. you cannot use a driving licence as proof of all of the above). Please note: we can accept photocopies - please do not send original documents through the post.

For Proof of identity

We need to see:

  • Birth certificate;
  • passport;
  • NHS medical card;
  • driving licence, or;
  • statement of entitlement to a pension.

For Proof of residency

We need to see:

  • Bank statement;
  • benefit book;
  • council tax bill;
  • driving licence;
  • doctors letter;
  • letter or statement from HMRC;
  • medical or optical prescription;
  • NHS medical card;
  • pension book or;
  • utilities bill (not credit card or mobile phone).

Proof that you are eligible

Category Proof we need

People aged 60 and over.

  • Birth certificate;
  • driving license;
  • passport;
  • senior railcard;
  • winter fuel payment letter, or;
  • pension credit or statement of entitlement (from DWP Pension Service).

People who are registered blind or partially sighted.

Evidence of registration with Social Services.

People who are severely or profoundly deaf.

Evidence of registration with Social Services, or a report from an aural specialist.

People who cannot speak.

Doctor's letter or Blue Badge.

People who have a disability or have suffered an injury which has a serious long-term effect on their ability to walk.

Proof that you are receiving the higher-rate mobility component of DLA, medical evidence, or Blue Badge.

People who are without the use of both arms.

Doctor's letter or Blue Badge.

People who have a learning disability.

Evidence of registration with Social Services, or medical evidence.

People who are prohibited from driving a motor vehicle on medical grounds.
