LDF consultation: Joint Core Strategy

Summary

The Government has set ambitious growth targets for Broadland Council, Norwich City Council and ourselves, which means we will need to plan for over 26,000 houses and 35,000 jobs by 2026.

Along with Norfolk County Council we are working together to set out the planning framework to deliver this growth over the next 20 years, in a document called the Joint Core Strategy.

The Greater Norwich Development Partnership (GNDP) is currently carrying out a technical consultation for some specialist organisations to have an input on plans for growth and housing development in the area. The consultation ends on Friday 26 September 2008.

Further information

About the consultation

The first phase in the preparation of the Joint Core Strategy was the Issues and Options Stage. This identified the issues we are likely to face in delivering the growth over the next 20 years. A full public consultation ran for 12 weeks from November 2007 to February 2008, and around 8000 residents gave their views. These were taken into consideration and helped reach the current point in the process. Technical opinions are now required.

The technical consultation

The current phase is a technical consultation prior to producing the 'preferred options'. To complement this, all local residents in Broadland, Norwich and South Norfolk will be sent a leaflet explaining the consultation process. The end of the technical consultation period is Friday 26 September 2008.

The technical consultees will receive a detailed report on the options for growth in the local area that looks at specific infrastructure and service issues. In line with new government planning regulations, this consultation with specific groups will be followed by a full public consultation on the single plan for the local area later in 2008.
