Advertisements & Business Signs in the Open Countryside
We are keen to encourage business signs that are reasonably necessary and appropriate for their setting, both in terms of scale and appearance. However, it is important that directional advertisement signs do not conflict with or in any way mimic standard traffic signs (erected by the County Council as Local Highway Authority), and that they are not located on highway land.
In order to encourage good quality applications for advertisement consent, and to reduce the potential for future enforcement action to remove inappropriate and un-authorised signs, we have prepared some guidance which you can download above.
Further guidance on what signs can be erected without planning permission is available on the DCLG website [external link].
