Architect: Paul Lucas, Real Architecture Ltd., Wymondham

The extension of the church creates a series of additional spaces on the eastern end of the building including entrance/baptistry, meeting room, confessional, kitchen, toilets and storage facilities. The Design Award Assessment Panel were unanimous in their decision to offer an award to this building which was considered to be of exceptional quality and had resulted in a distinctive landmark building within the Wymondham Conservation Area.

In the opinion of the panel, the architect had seized an opportunity to create a striking solution to the extension of the church which makes a very positive contribution to contemporary architectural design. The assessors were also impressed with the attention to detailed design, the use of contrasting materials, the quality of the internal space created and the manner in which the strong visual form of the roof adds to the rich townscape of Wymondham.

Designers: David & Monique Gregson

The assessment panel were impressed with the excellent use made of this previously redundant clay lump and weatherboarded outbuilding, within the curtilage of the listed farmhouse and considered that it was worthy of a commendation.

The scheme included the insertion of a new first floor galleried space to create an additional display area. The use of traditional detailing together with contrasting contemporary features such as lighting, decking, seating areas etc., and the recurring 'fish' theme both internally and externally throughout the site as a whole, had created a visually delightful scheme.
