Useful planning websites

Summary

The pages on our website give you information about how planning works in South Norfolk, but there are many other websites that have help, guidance and resources for just about every part of the planning process in England. Below you will find links to the homepages of the websites we often refer our customers to for help and advice, plus links to the planning pages on the websites of our neighbouring councils.

Communities & Local Government (CLG): planning
The CLG (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister or ODPM) website contains detailed information on planning regulations and law, as well as an excellent guide for householders. If you’ve never had to seek planning permission before, make sure you read this guide first!

The National Planning Portal
A vast online resource for all things planning. If you want to apply online for planning permission you can do so via the Planning Portal and your application will be sent directly to us – but make sure you read our step-by-step guidance first.

The Planning Inspectorate
The Government Agency who deal with all planning appeals (where an applicant is unhappy with a decision on their planning application). See our Planning appeals page for more information.

Broads Authority
Set up in 1989 to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Broads. Parts of the Broads Authority are within the South Norfolk district, and this can affect the kinds of development you are allowed to do.

English Heritage: conservation
Conservation, listed & historic buildings, including Images of England– a photographic record of Britain’s 370,000 listed buildings.

Travellers' Times Planning Guide
Download the step-by-step guidance for Traveller communities in England on applying for planning permission, from the UK magazine for Gypsies & Travellers.
