Planning committees

Summary

When there are objections to a planning application, and these go against the recommendation of the case officer (the Officer here at the Council who reviews the application) the majority will be sent to Committee for a decision. There are three area committees - East, North West & South West - plus a Main Planning Committee that can look at applications which are referred to it from the area committees.

Further information

The tables below list the parishes that each of the area committees cover - this will tell you which committee would look at your application. Agendas and reports of forthcoming meetings are always published on our Committee minutes, agendas & reports page. For minutes & reports of previous meetings, visit the East Area, North West Area or South West Area archives.

How the planning committees work

The Development Control Committees (the Committees that make the decisions on planning applications) are split into three areas: South West, North West and East.

There is also a main Planning Committee that decides the outcome of applications that are being recommended for approval where they are:

  • contrary to planning policy, or;
  • any application passed up from the area committees or;
  • applications submitted by South Norfolk Council.

The area Committees meet every four weeks; the Main Plaining Committee meets every eight weeks. They are made up of elected Members who listen to the views of the Public and the reports of the Planning Officers. A decision will then follow a debate between members on the application.

These are public meetings so if there is an item on the agenda that is of interest to you, you can attend the meeting and raise any comments you have.

Follow the links below to find out which councillors are on each committee, and to view agendas, reports and minutes of meetings past and present.

The Committee meetings calendar shows the planned dates for the committee meetings for 2007.
