If you are under 18 (under 25 for disabled athletes), live in South Norfolk and are involved in competitive sport at county, regional or national level, the Community Sports Achiever Award can help you reach success.

The grant can be used to help with the costs of competing or performing, coaching qualifications, training, and equipment.

This award aims to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication that you put into succeeding in your sport. The award will also provide financial rewards towards the extensive resources needed to help you excel.

Community Sport Achiever Award

To apply for this award you must be competing against people from outside of Norfolk, or represent your sport as part of the Norfolk team.

Community Sport Achiever Award – National

To apply for this award you must be competing against people from other countries, or representing their sports as part of the England or Great Britain team.

Young Ambassador Award

To apply for this award you must currently be coached as part of the National Governing Body, Olympic training programme. This award is available for sports that will feature at the London 2012 Olympics. For further details of this award please download the form from the 'Downloads' section on this page.

What would getting the Award do for me?

  • Provide money to help you succeed.
  • Give targeted media coverage (getting stories about you and your achievements in the paper).
  • Give recognition from significant sports organisations with knowledge of high performers.
  • The chance to seek advice on further funding opportunities.

As an award holder we will ask you to support a South Norfolk council sporting event. By doing this you will be able to inspire other young people in the community and potentially increase participation in your own sport. This would also be a great opportunity for you to gain experience coaching.

What could I use the grant for?

  • The cost of competing or performing.
  • The cost of coaching qualifications used to benefit voluntary clubs.
  • The cost of training courses.
  • The cost of equipmen.

Can I apply?

If you are an individual performer competing at county level or higher and you are recognised by your governing body as participating at this level, then you can apply as long as you meet the criteria below.

Community Sport Achiever Award

  • Under 18 years old (or 18 years old in year 13 full-time education).
  • Under 25 years old to qualify for a disability award.
  • A resident of South Norfolk.

Young Ambassador Award

  • Under 25 years old.
  • A resident of South Norfolk.
  • Part of the National Governing Body, Olympic training programme.

  • Applications must be submitted between 1 November 2008 – 26 January 2009.
  • We encourage all children and young people to complete the forms themselves however, if it is necessary for a parent or carer to complete the form please fill in section 4.1.
  • Please enclose a letter/reference from your National Governing body supporting your application and confirming your level of performance (form attached). You may also include press cuttings with your application.
  • The cheque will be made payable to the applicant only. Please state the applicants name as it appears on their bank account.
  • Grants cannot be given to cover the costs of events that have already happened. An application should be submitted at least four weeks prior to the event/activity for which the award will be used.
  • If your application is successful, your award will be presented to you a the award ceremony held in March 2009.

Conditions of the Award

  • Each applicant can only receive one grant per financial year.
  • On receipt of an award you will be encouraged to support and event in South Norfolk for the following year. The aim of this is to increase participation in sport by using the award winners as a role model to aspiring athlete.
  • Within six months of receiving the award a detailed report describing what the grant has been used for will be required. This may include photographs and press cuttings.

How will my application be assessed?

A panel of local representatives, along with our officers from Tourism, Heritage and Culture Services, will assess your application.
