Further information
Habitats: The habitats include the grassland, which has both natural history and scenic value, ponds and young woodland.

Management: It is likely that Mulbarton Common has been maintained as open grassland since the Middle Ages, with the grassland managed by livestock rather than arable farming. The woodland provides habitat for many creatures and is largely left to develop, with the brambles cut back to prevent them spreading onto the rest of the Common.

Flora and fauna: There are many grasses recorded on the Common, including perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), sheep’s fescue (Festuca ovina), spring wild oats (Avena fatua) and meadow fox-tail (Alopecuris pratensis).

Look out for:
Spring: Moss Bladder snail (Aplexa hypnorum)
Summer: Long tailed Tits (Aegithalos caudatus), Great Crested Newts (Triturus cristatus)
Autumn: Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla)
Winter: Water Vole (Arvicola terrestris), Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)
