Image of present day East Hills woodThe wood is located within a mainly urban environment, although there are in excess of 18 ha of woodland covered by tree preservation orders throughout the Parish.

The wood is on a rising and falling landscape, including some quite steep slopes. There are several topographic features such as hollows and gullies. Its northern boundary is banked, and looks out across the River Tud.

East Hills once formed part of the extensive Costessey Park, the entrance to which was at the Roundwell. There is no record of the wood in the Ancient Woodland Inventory.
