East Hills Wood
Further information
East Hills Wood lies off of Longwater Lane, within the parish of Costessey. It is made up of about 9.5 hectares of mixed broadleaf woodland. We own and manage this wood as an amenity for the local community.
The wood has a mature canopy layer, a well developed shrub layer including saplings regenerated from the canopy trees and some areas where old coppice stools are present.
The wood is located within a mainly urban environment, although there are in excess of 18 ha of woodland covered by tree preservation orders throughout the Parish.
The wood is on a rising and falling landscape, including some quite steep slopes. There are several topographic features such as hollows and gullies. Its northern boundary is banked, and looks out across the River Tud.
East Hills once formed part of the extensive Costessey Park, the entrance to which was at the Roundwell. There is no record of the wood in the Ancient Woodland Inventory.
