LDF: Gypsy and Traveller Development Plan (DPD)

Summary

Gypsy and Traveller Site

The Gypsy and Traveller Development Plan Document (DPD) was our proposed plan to provide sites for Gypsies and Travellers in South Norfolk. The document was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate earlier this year for independent scrutiny (Examination in Public).

The Inspector raised some concerns about the soundness of the document, in particular with the criteria we had included in selecting sites to ensure they had no adverse impact on existing residents. This criteria was the result of extensive public consultation which we felt was vital to the DPD being acceptable to the community. The Inspector indicated to us that he could not see a way in which he could find the document acceptable with this criteria included.

As a consequence the Council has resolved to that we no longer wish to proceed with the examination of the DPD given it is almost certain to be found unsound. We have therefore written to the Government Office for the East of England requesting that the Secretary of State withdraw the DPD from the examination.
