Further information
How much does it cost?
If you qualify for the free service you will not have to pay anything for the works although you will still need to pay for materials (excluding keysafes and smoke alarms) used if any.
If you qualify for the partly discounted service – this is if you are not on means tested benefits but are registered disabled or suffering long term ill health - you will need to pay the handyperson £10 per hour when they do the works. If materials are needed you can supply these yourself or pay the handyperson to supply them, this excludes keysafes and smoke alarms as we supply these for all clients.
The cost of £10 can cover one or more jobs that can be completed in the hour.If the job takes over one hour an extra £10 is payable. No job likely to be over two hours will be taken on.
The non discounted service is £25 per hour: this is for anyone who is vulnerable but not on benefit, disabled or suffering long term ill health. This payment will need to paid to the handyperson when they come to complete the works. If any materials are needed you can supply these yourself or pay the handyperson to supply them, this excludes keysafes and smoke alarms as we supply these for all clients.
How do I get a job done?
-
When you call, our Care & Repair team will check the job can be done, and that you qualify for the service;
-
We will then contact a contractor in your area offering them the work;
-
The handyperson will then contact you to make an appointment that suits you both.
We aim to have most jobs completed within four weeks of the handyperson first getting the request.
What jobs are covered?
The service is for small jobs and they will take two hours or less. It is definitely not for emergency works.
No Job is likely to be taken on which may take longer than two hours
