Planning permission for affordable housing in or near villages

Summary

This procedure, written in January 2008, gives a definition for affordable (low cost) housing, a suggested process when making a planning application for affordable housing and information on local needs housing surveys.

Further information

Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) produced in 2003 underpins the development of affordable housing schemes in South Norfolk. The guidance relates to Planning Policy HOU 12: Affordable Housing, and Planning Policy HOU 13: Local Needs Housing (both policies can be downloaded from our Local Plan: Area-wide policies page).

The 'Procedure for applying for planning permission for local needs housing in or adjacent to villages' gives a 2008 update with particular reference to information about Local Plan Policy HOU 13, and the Rural Exceptions section of the Supplementary Planning Guidance.

Appendix 2 of the guidance sets out a flow chart to help you find out what evidence is needed to support an affordable housing scheme in your village.
