Landlord accreditation

Summary

We have entered into partnership with the Eastern Landlords Association (ELA), along with Broadland and Norwich Councils, to develop the Greater Norwich Landlord Accreditation Scheme.

This is a voluntary scheme run by the ELA, who are keen to promote professional standards among its members. It recognises good landlords, gets them more business, and helps tenants find good quality accommodation.

Further information

What benefits will I have?

  • Landlords with good quality accommodation and good management will stand out from those that don’t.
  • It will be able to easier for tenants to find landlords who offer good quality services and accommodation.
  • Accredited landlords, both large and small, will stand out equally.
  • Landlords will be able to advertise your properties through the accreditation website which will also be a source of good practice.

How will it work?

If you join the scheme you agree to make sure all your properties meet a good management and property standard. The councils will monitor these standards.

Properties are not inspected prior to accreditation, but a current gas safety certificate and a relevant electrical inspection report will have to be produced and in order. Although your property is not originally inspected, a proportion of accredited landlords will have their properties inspected every year.

However, if you let one or more houses in multiple occupation a licence may be required. If it is, your property will need to be inspected.

How much will it cost?

If you are a member of the ELA it will only cost you £15 for the first year. The cost is per landlord not per property, so if you have lots of properties the cost stays the same. If you are not a member of the ELA it will cost you £35.

The first 100 applicants get free membership whether they are ELA members or not.

Can managing agents apply?

If you are a managing agent you will not be able to apply unless you also own properties.
