Gypsy & Traveller accommodation needs

Summary

We are committed to meeting the housing needs of all sections of our community. For a number of Gypsies and Travellers appropriate housing means designated sites rather than “bricks and mortar” housing. The Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Survey, carried out in early 2006, gave us an indicator of the needs and preferences of Gypsies and Travellers in South Norfolk, in terms of number of pitches required, possible locations, type and size of site.

We have now developed an allocation policy and application process for such sites as they are developed. The policy and application form can be downloaded below.

Further information

We are aiming is to support sustainable and respectful communities. Key objectives include increasing the number of authorised Gypsy and Traveller sites within the district, and reducing the number of unauthorised sites.

Gypsies & travellers and the Local Development Framework (LDF)

We will use this information to develop options and consult all sections of the community, through the Local Development Plan process, before moving to the final stage of determining where we will allocate sites.

Find out more on our Gypsy & Traveller LDD web page.

This report will also contribute to wider county and regional plans.
