Further information

Treating rats

Rats will seek out any kind of food they can. During treatment, we want the rats to find the poison we put down more attractive than anything else. Therefore, to make your treatment successful you should make sure there are no ther sources of food to distract them.

  • If you have been feeding the birds it is wise to stop while the treatment is carried out;
  • Do not leave animal food down on the ground;
  • Keep outdoor food (e.g. pet food or your home grown fruit and vegetables) in sealed containers.

Reinfestation

The officer will close your job off when he feels there is no further problem, or if there is nothing further we can do. If the rodents return to the same area within five working days of our final visit you can call us out to treat them once more.

Payments

Treatment from our Pest Control Officers can only be booked in if we receive payment in advance. See our Service charges for details of the fee.

Payment can be made via telephone using credit/debit card, or cheque/postal orders can be sent to us by post. See Making payments to South Norfolk Council for details.

Treatment process

When you request an appointment you will be offered a date (Monday to Fridays only). An officer will visit your property on that date, between the hours of 9am – 3.30pm. You must be there for this visit.

On that day you are welcome to call us from 9am, giving us the reference number, and we can then give you a three hour time slot for when our Pest Control Officer will visit.

Service standards

We will do our best to make sure we deliver this service to you in the timescales given below. Due to increases in demand these may not always be met.

  • We aim to treat problems inside your premises withint hree working days
  • We aim to treat problems outside your premises with five working days

See our Pest Control Service leaflet for information on what to look for, prevention and control. You can download the leaflet by following the link under 'Downloads' above.

What happens if the problem is caused from elsewhere?

If someone else's premises or area of land is overrun with rats or mice, then we may be able to take action to make the owner(s) treat the problem.
