Pest control: flies
Summary
We only offer treatment for cluster flies, not for house flies or bluebottles. Cluster flies hibernate in large numbers during late Summer and Autumn, and seek out hard to reach places such as loft spaces and wall cavities.
We can treat cluster flies in both domestic and commercial premises for a fee (see our Environmental Services charges for current prices). All treatments are subject to a free survey. To request a visit from a Pest Control Officer, follow the instructions below.
How to request Pest Control for flies
- Contact us online, or by e-mail, telephone or letter (our details are at the foot of this page);
- Information we will need from you:
- your full name;
- your full address including your postcode;
- your home telephone number and a number which we can contact you on during normal office hours if this is different;
- your email address (if applicable);
- how you would like us to get back to you, and;
- details of the problem.

Further information
Treating flies
This treatment has a knock down effect and will kill the majority of cluster flies at the time of visit. However it will not stop a re-infestation from happening at a later date.
Payments
The survey is free, but treatment from our Pest Control Officers can only be booked in if we receive payment in advance. See our Service charges for details of the fee.
Payment can be made via telephone using credit/debit card, or cheque/postal orders can be sent to us by post. See Making payments to South Norfolk Council for details.
Treatment process
When you request an appointment you will be offered a date (Monday to Fridays only). An officer will visit your property on that date, between the hours of 9am – 3.30pm. You must be there for this visit.
On that day you are welcome to call us from 9am, giving us the reference number, and we can then give you a three hour time slot for when our Pest Control Officer will visit.
Service standards
We will do our best to make sure we deliver this service to you in the timescales given below. Due to increases in demand these may not always be met.
- We aim to treat problems inside your premises within three working days.
See our Pest Control Service leaflet for information on what to look for, prevention and control. You can download the leaflet by following the link under 'Downloads' above.
