Environmental Service Standards

Summary

To deal with your requests in a timely and reasonable way, the Environmental Services Team have set the following service standards. For more information or to request one of our services, choose a category from our Environment homepage.

Further information

Administration

  • All enquiries that cannot be answered immediately will be dealt with by letter, telephone or visit within three working days;
  • All telephone calls will be answered within 20 seconds;

Dog Warden

  • Detained strays collected within 2 hours (during office hours);
  • Unclaimed stray dogs re-homed;
  • Free dog registration scheme.

Emergency Planning

  • Response plans for all major civil incidents and for continuity of Council services, 24 hour access and cover for emergencies.

Food Control

  • Begin investigation of food complaints on the same/next working day;
  • Begin investigation of reported cases of food poisoning on the day of notification;
  • Regularly inspect all food premises dependant on risk.

Health & Safety

  • Regularly inspect all Health & Safety premises dependant on risk;
  • Begin investigation of accidents concerning health and safety at work on the day of notification.

Litter Collection

  • Remove litter within one working day;
  • Empty dog bins three times per week;
  • Public toilets cleaned daily/some twice daily;
  • Remove dead animals from roads on the same day;
  • Remove abandoned vehicles within 24 hours.

Pest Control

  • Inside treatment within three working days;
  • Outside within five working days;
  • Customer told day of treatment when reporting pests.

Pollution Control

  • Respond to your requests within five working days;
  • Complete investigations within 50 working days;
  • Applications for authorised processes to be dealt with in two months on request sample private water supplies.

Recycling

  • Recycling centres are emptied when they become full;
  • Centres are kept safe & litter free;
  • We guarantee to recycle all collected material;
  • Recycling credits paid to community groups.

Refuse Collection

  • Weekly collection;
  • Back door collection for people with special needs;
  • Special arrangements made if we have missed your collection;
  • Provision of refuse sacks to new occupiers;
  • 24 litter line for all litter/dumped rubbish & missed Collections (Tel: 01508 533730);
  • The following services will be provided within three working days of a customer request:
  • Collection of Large/Bulky domestic items;
  • Collection of refrigerators and freezers.
