Home improvement grants
Summary
There are a number of grants and loans which can help people improve their homes, these include the Safe & Warm Grant, the Decent Homes Loan, the Disabled Facilities Grant and the Gaining Independence Grant.
Further information
The Safe & Warm Grant
The Safe & Warm grant is for homeowners and tenants who are on means tested benefits. The grant is for up to £3,000, and when the grant funded works are complete the property should reach the Decent Homes Standard.
Decent Homes Loan
For more substantial works, our Decent Homes Loan of up to £25,000 may be more appropriate.
The Disabled Facilities Grant
The Disabled Facilities Grant, of up to £30,000, is designed to help people with a disability to make necessary changes to their homes.
What the grant can be used for
- Adequate access into and around your home;
- Suitable washing and toilet facilities;
- Facilities for preparation of food;
- A suitable room to sleep in;
- Adequate heating facilities;
- Adequate safety.
The Gaining Independence Grant
People who require adaptations to their home can apply for this new grant, which will achieve the same outcome but is much simpler and quicker than the Disabled Facility Grant, if they are receiving a means tested benefit and the cost of the recommended works is less than £8000.
