Making telephone, post or cash payments
Summary
To pay your council tax or business rates we recommend you set up a Direct debit, but for 'one-off' payments (e.g. planning applications, Environmental Services) you can either pay online or by telephone, by post or with cash - the information below tells you what to do.
How to make a payment
Payments by 24 hour automated touchtone free phone
- Call our free phone number 0808 178 7146 and choose from the type of account you wish to pay from the options available. Payments can be made for Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Sales Ledger Invoices and Temporary Accommodation.
- Follow the recorded instructions to enter your reference number, amount to pay and payment card details.
- Once the process has been successfully completed, the system will give you an authorisation code as proof of payment. This should be quoted in any correspondence with the Council relating to your payment together with the reference of the account being paid.
Payments by telephone to South Norfolk Council
- Call the number printed on the front of the bill you want to pay;
- Quote your debit card details;
- Your bank will transfer the payment from your account to the Council’s account.
Payments by home/telephone banking
- Contact your bank and quote our bank account number 61073568 and Sort Code 08-90-14, and the account reference/invoice number for the bill you want to pay.
- Your bank will transfer the payment from your bank account to the Council's bank account.
Payments by post
- You can pay a bill by post by sending a cheque to our offices at:
South Norfolk Council
South Norfolk House
Swan Lane
Long Stratton
Norfolk
NR15 2XE
- Please do not send cash in the post. If you wish to pay by cash, see 'payments by cash' below;
- Cheques should be made payable to South Norfolk Council;
- Write the reference number for the bill/invoice on the back of the cheque so we know what the payment is for.
Payments by cash
We are no longer providing a cash office service at our office, but if you would prefer to pay bills by cash here's what you can do:
Payments at Post Offices & PayPoints
If you have one of our Plastic Payment Cards, you can make payments by cash at any Post Office or PayPoint. You will find PayPoints usually at shops, petrol stations or village stores which display the PayPoint sign.
The Post Office will also accept payment by cheque or debit card, but at PayPoints cheque and debit card payments are at the retailer's discretion.
