You can pay bills online at the Alliance & Leicester Billpay website. If you have an account with a UK bank or building society, and you have a Visa/Visa Electron, Solo or Maestro debit card, you can pay business or household bills, whether they are one-off or regular payments.

How to pay council bills online

You will first need to register as a user of Alliance and Leicester BillPay and accept their terms and conditions. You will need to set up a payment profile and an account for the bill you wish to pay. To do that:

  1. Visit the Alliance & Leicester BillPay website;
  2. Follow the link on the left that says 'Register';
  3. Enter your name & address, your email address and a password;
  4. Click on the 'Submit' button to create your profile;
  5. Choose South Norfolk District Council from the list of company names;
  6. Select business rates, council tax or sundry income (e.g. if you have Sales Ledger invoices, or invoices for overpaid housing benefit);
  7. Enter the appropriate account or invoice reference from the bill we have sent you;
  8. You are then ready to make your payment, which can be by debit card only. You will receive online confirmation when your payment is accepted.
  9. This service does not issue a receipt, but it does show you a history of the payments you have made through the system;
  10. To access your profile and payments history in future, enter your email address and password in the 'log on' box on the BillPay homepage.

Is it safe?

The BillPay website goes to every possible length to make sure your information is submitted as safely and securely as possible. When you supply confidential information on the BillPay website (such as your debit card details), they are encrypted.

This means the information you enter is scrambled, making it difficult for unauthorised people to decipher it and to get your details. Only authorised people are then allowed to decrypt or ‘unscramble’ the information you send.
