Getting on the Electoral Register

Summary

If you want to use your right to vote at elections, you first need to have your name on the Electoral Register. It is also much harder to obtain credit if your name is not on the register.

The new register of electors was published 1 December 2010. To check if you are registered, contact the Democratic Services Team (contact details at the bottom of this page).

How to get your name on the Electoral Register

  1. Download the form (link below) and print it out;
  2. Complete the form, providing your name and address;
  3. Say whether you would like to be on the full or edited register – see our frequently asked questions page for the differences between the two versions of the register;
  4. Sign the form and return it to the Electoral Services Team, South Norfolk Council, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, Norwich, NR15 2XE. (The return address is also on the form.)

Further information

The number of electors on the electoral register continues to increase, with a net increase of around 1200 electors this year and a European Parliamentary and Local Government Electorate of 95,572 as of 1 December 2009.

Rolling registration allows the Elections Office to add new residents to the electoral register at the beginning of each month as long as they are qualified and complete a electoral registration form. Deletions and amendments are also made each month, during the months of January to September.
