Wymondham Leisure Centre rolls out new artificial pitch
Released on 14 December 2009
This is yet another improvement that we have made to our leisure centres in the drive to improve the health and well-being of our community.
Councillor Michelle Monck
Wymondham Leisure Centre was celebrating this week, after the re-opening of its brand new artificial pitch.
The final piece of ‘turf’ was rolled out on Friday 11 December much to the delight of local clubs and kids activity groups.
South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Councillor Michelle Monck said:
“This is a brilliant facility for the people of Wymondham and surrounding areas, and children and local clubs will really benefit as they can use the flood-lit pitch in the evenings and after school.
“By replacing our old pitch with this new state-of-the-art surface we hope to attract more people to the centre.
“In fact, we have already received a lot of interest from local sports clubs keen to begin training on the new pitch.”
The new 3G artificial grass made by Desso cost £17,000 and has been used by many top professional football clubs including Arsenal, Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers.
Councillor Monck said:
“By investing in such a good quality surface, we hope it will not need replacing again for at least another 15 years.
“This is yet another improvement that we have made to our leisure centres in the drive to improve the health and well-being of our community.”
A special opening event is planned for the New Year which will feature a football tournament with all entry fees being donated to EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices) and a celebrity guest from Norwich City Football Club will be on-hand to present the winning team with their trophy.
