£94,000 grants boost for communities

Neighbourhood groups and partnerships who work with South Norfolk Council have received just over £94,000 in grants. The council's grants panel, chaired by Councillor David Goldson met for almost four hours to discuss applications. At the end of the discussions, the panel agreed the following: Hardley Village Hall £4,500 for refurbishment Stoke Holy Cross £860 towards buying allotments Hethersett youth centre £5,000 for an upgrade Saxlingham Nethergate village hall £2,000 to repair thatch A total of £12,360. A further £82,000 was awarded to organisations ranging from Easton College to Shaping Norfolk's Future and the Citizens Advice Bureau. Councillor David Goldson said: "We are always conscious of the large number of community groups and organisations who come to us for support, especially in these difficult times.

"But we are not immune from this recession, and we are looking to give support where it will be most effective and for those most in need." "The awards totalling £82,000 reflects the council's strategy of funding organisations for work it would otherwise deliver itself. The amounts and the organisations are categorised under broad strategic headings. They are areas critical to the delivery of the councils priorities for the community, improving the lives of local people.
