Benefit awards hope

South Norfolk Council benefits team has been shortlisted for a major national award as claims rise steeply due to the recession.
Around 800 delegates at the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation conference in Bournemouth next week will hear if they have won "team of the year". Last year they came second.
The team told judges that double handling claims was the ‘enemy’ and that by visiting customers at home they had cut wasteful document scanning, postal ping pong and ‘back office/front office’ handover.
The council recently announced £2m savings in a staff and budgets shake-up.
