Gypsy and Traveller sites consultation reaches latest milestone

Released on 03 September 2009

South Norfolk Council is reconsulting the public as it enters the latest phase of plans to find sites for Gypsies and Travellers.

After months of consultations on much wider proposals, the council has narrowed its choices to two small sites of two acres each - one at Old Harleston Road, Earsham and one at Stanfield Road, near Wymondham.

Both would have just six to eight rented traveller pitches each, which would be managed by a registered social landlord.

The public are invited to comment on the soundness of the new Development Plan Document (DPD) between today (1 September) and 5pm on Tuesday 27 October.

Comments can be made either online at www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/planning/3683.asp or emailed to LDF@s-norfolk.gov.uk, or posted to the Planning and Housing Policy Team, South Norfolk House, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, Norwich, NR15 2XE.

Later this year, the council's final DPD will be sent to the Government, which will appoint an independent inspector to examine it and report back to Ministers.

Councillor Derek Blake, Cabinet Member for Planning Housing and the Built Environment said:

"We are coming to the end of this phase of the legal process. We have consulted and consulted, and now we are consulting again.

"We plan to have our final document in the hands of Ministers before the end of the year."
