South Norfolk Council’s Festival of the Arts will be hotting up on Saturday 22nd August when the Upper Waveney Sculpture Meadow in Brockdish goes up in flames.

This unique event billed as ‘Fleeting Flames’ will see the meadow ablaze with a dazzling display of never-before seen fire sculptures and breathtaking fire performances.

Deputy Leader Councillor Martin Wilby, said:

“It’s not every day that such a spectacular event happens right on your doorstep. I hope that people will take this opportunity to come along and enjoy what promises to be a really magical evening.”

Hurricane and bamboo lamps will light the way to an array of awe-inspiring sculptures including a metal maze labyrinth and a large raised sculpture that will be visible from miles around, thanks to the meadow’s hillside location overlooking the Waveney Valley.

Smoking chimneys will burn oak chippings creating a wonderful aroma, and mesmerizing Fire Poi performers will enchant audiences to the backdrop of live world music and rap from ‘The Brick Work Lizards’.

The evening’s hot action will culminate in a dramatic moving fire sculpture and visitors will be able to release paper sky lanterns into the night.

For those who want to get more involved, there will also be a rare chance to build a fire sculpture at the afternoon workshop, which will form part of the night’s display.

The nearby pub, The King’s Head, will exhibit contemporary artwork and offer refreshments including a special Fleeting Flames meal.

The evening event will run from 6-10pm. Tickets are £8, £6 concessions; many recent events have sold out so book now by calling 01603 630000, or visit www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/festivals.

The workshop runs from 2-5pm and is suitable for anyone over 12. Tickets are £5 and are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment on 01508 533615.
