South Norfolk Council is reporting record attendance at its free outdoor children’s events.

Wednesday’s National Play Day event at Brooke Village Hall attracted a staggering 773 people, which is three times as many as last year.

Deputy Leader Councillor Martin Wilby said:

“Our children’s holiday events are proving incredibly popular. We have literally been turning people away at the door.

“Because more people are staying at home this summer they are looking for cheap and fun ways to entertain the kids and these local community events are ideal.

"Our Wymondham-based Kids’ Camp is selling out and our programme of free children’s entertainment is drawing in huge crowds."

In addition to the Play Day, the Council has also held two Outdoor Theatre Events, both of which have been full to bursting.

On 24 July 189 people squeezed into Barnham Broome’s Village Hall to see Jacitio Theatre perform ‘The Very Ugly Duckling’. And an amazing 521 people turned up to Dunston Common on 31 July to see Pendle Production’s performance of ‘Wind in the Willows’.

Martin said:

“Outdoor theatre events will be running right through to September and because of their enormous popularity and the fact that parking is limited we are urging parents to use public transport or car share. ”

The Council are hoping for another good turnout on Friday 7 August when their next Outdoor Theatre event, 'Wizzard of Oz', takes place at Bressingham Village Hall at 3pm.
