Teen custard bath and leg wax boosts cancer unit appeal
Released on 14 May 2009
Getting your legs waxed or sitting in a bath of custard and baked beans is not every teenager's idea of a night out.
But for eight young people from South Norfolk Youth Action, it's worth the pain and the gunge if it means getting another step closer to building a specialist teenage cancer unit at Addenbrookes Hospital.
The youngsters are now looking for sponsors to back their charity event, which takes place at Long Stratton Leisure Centre from 5pm on Tuesday 9 June. It's the night of their annual meeting.
Max Viale-Sole, Tom Frost, Toby Limbach, Ollie Thorn and Ryan Stevenson will be having their legs waxed, while Chloe Donovan, Robert Thomas and Phoebe Murphy relax in a bath of custard and baked beans.
They are hoping to raise more than £100 to help the £1 million campaign.
Max, 15, who is sitting for his GCSEs next week, said:
"It's going to be painful having my legs waxed, but it's for a great cause. We would like all our friends, families and supporters to help us to get behind this and sponsor us.
"To make a donation to the Addenbrooke’s Appeal, send a cheque payable to 'Teenage Cancer Trust - Suffolk Appeal', SNYA-THEC, C/O South Norfolk Council, South Norfolk House, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, Norwich NR15 2XE."

The nearest units for teenage cancer patients are in London and Birmingham. The charity has set itself the target of raising the £1m for a 10-bed facility at Addenbrookes. The appeal has so far raised more than £100,000.
