More children than ever before are taking part in South Norfolk's Tree Week celebrations.
Hundreds of children aged 4 to 15 from schools in Wymondham, Barnham Broom, and Wortwell will all be taking part in the week’s planting.
Tree wardens from 33 parishes will be collecting the trees and hedge plants from South Norfolk House on Friday 28 November.
Councillor Martin Wilby, Deputy Leader and a volunteer Tree Warden for Dickleburgh and Rushall said:
"I’m delighted so many young people are getting involved in National Tree Week. It’s vital children learn how to protect and look after their local environment. After all, this is about putting down roots for their future and the generations that will follow."
Over 100 students from Barnham Broom will help plant 440 mixed native hedge trees, creating a 110 meter boundary around the school playing field. This will not only act as a wind barrier, but also provide a habitat for local wildlife.
Ashleigh Infant School and Wymondham High School are also taking part, using the plants to restore hedgerow, enhance wildlife areas and create a small copse. In addition to the plants from the Council, the local community has donated over 60 extra trees.
In Wortwell, plans are afoot to create a wicker dome, which children will be able to play in.
Since 2000, the Council have been taking part in this hugely popular event and as a result, volunteers have added a staggering 9 miles of hedgerow and 62,560 plants to the local landscape.
