Retailers across South Norfolk are getting back together as part of a new push to Say No To Plastic bags.

Former Chairman of South Norfolk Council, Joe Mooney wants to hear from those firms who have successfully gone plastic bag free to find out how they did it, what lessons can be learned and how customers have reacted.

And he wants more retailers to join the campaign he set up during his year in office.

Major supermarket chains like Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons and Waitrose are being invited to attend alongside stores like the Co-op, Budgens and One Stop as well as smaller retailers and takeaways.

In his letter, Councillor Mooney, who represents Northfields ward in Wymondham, says:

"I have seen real enthusiasm for my Say No to Plastic Bags campaign in South Norfolk, with several premises displaying the campaign logo and a number becoming a plastic bag free zone. This is great to see and has only been achieved with the invaluable support of businesses in the district.

"This work has not gone unnoticed, with considerable press coverage and even a letter received from Prince Charles expressing his support and encouragement.

"We have achieved much together, but I believe that there is still scope for even more. Therefore I would like to invite you to a further conference drawing on your expertise and help to develop a next phase to the campaign."

The conference will take place at 7pm on Monday 10 November at the council's headquarters in Long Stratton.

14 South Norfolk retailers have already joined the campaign to Say No to Plastic Bags:

The Cinnabar Gem & Gift Shop, Costessey Natural Foodstore, Diss Quartermaster Stores, Diss Oxfam shop, Diss Peter Gillings, Diss GM Auto Accessories, Harleston Hemstocks Jewellers, Wymondham Mr Overalls, Wymondham EACH.
