Social climbing is about to become the most fun you can have indoors, thanks to Wymondham Leisure Centre!

The Centre, owned and run by South Norfolk Council, has been working with experts to improve the climbing wall, and is having an open day on Saturday 11 October between 10am and 2pm.

Anyone over the age of 8 who comes along will be offered a free taster climbing session and the chance to try new routes to the top, including some challenging overhangs.

Everyone will have harnesses and safety equipment so that they can get a grip or just let go, in complete confidence!

Councillor Michelle Monck, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Heritage, Enterprise, Culture and Customer Focus said:

"Climbing is a great way to have fun and get fit. The improvements to the climbing wall is part of our investment programme into our leisure centres, revamping and broadening the activities available. The open day is a great way for anyone to give climbing a go and get active."

The wall stretches the width and full height of the centre, around 40ft to 50ft. With over 100 multi-coloured grips, easy and hard sections and three qualified instructors on hand to offer advice, centre staff are hoping for lots of interest.

This is just the latest improvement at the centre which has now awarded OFSTED status. That means it can offer a better service to younger visitors, so the children's camp can take 5 to 15 year olds for the whole day. The next children's camp will be during the October half term holidays.

The centre has also just opened a treatment room offering physiotherapy, including acupuncture, holistic therapy, which includes massage and soon, hypnotherapy.

There are plenty of membership options available including a reduced joining fee of just £10 and other special deals to help beat the credit crunch
