Natural Theatre add some colour to Harleston market day
South Norfolk Council enlivened Harleston's market day this week by commissioning some colourful and comic street entertainment from Natural Theatre as part of their contribution to the Harleston & Waveney Festival.
There were Flowerpot Walkabouts - immaculately suited men and women whose heads were beautifully arranged pots of colourful flowers going for a gentle stroll, and Walkies Walkabouts - characters with hilariously yappy little dogs in tow.
Councillor Barry Greenway said "Festivals like this make a tremendous contribution to the whole atmosphere of a market town like ours, providing an even greater sense of vitality which in turn stimulates cultural tourism.
"Street theatre has a broad cultural appeal and previous similar events across the district, programmed by the council, have seen audiences of all ages delight in the comic and curious performances.
"We were pleased to work with the organisers of the Harleston & Waveney Festival by adding more informal components to their programme to appeal to passers-by and non-festival goers."
Around 150 people enjoyed the entertainment.
On Bank Holiday Monday (25 August), South Norfolk Council will also be supporting Harleston & Waveney Festival's family fun day with some entertainment themed to celebrate the Olympic handover from Beijing - including an enormous dragon sculpted entirely from balloons and a quirky cycling panda.
