If you go down to the woods at Whitlingham Country Park, you can be sure of a magical madcap mission.

Children, young people and their families will be hunting for clues and solving puzzles on a trail of adventure around the beautiful Park.

The adventures start at two different times - 10.30am and 2.30pm - and take place on the following dates: August 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17.

The fun is free - but booking ahead is necessary on 01603 617332.

With them during the seven fun-packed days will be a host of quirky characters - including on one day - South Norfolk Councillor Michelle Monck!

The Cabinet Member for Tourism, Heritage, Enterprise, Culture and Customer Focus will be taking her own children on the quest for fun.

It is all part of the council's Play Strategy programme of activities over the next three years, which kicked off last year when South Norfolk Council won £200,000 Big Lottery money to boost children's play.

Councillor Monck said:

"Forest Quest is great way for children to explore and enjoy the countryside whilst learning more about the environment. And it’s set in one of South Norfolk's greatest natural assets - Whitlingham Country Park.

“South Norfolk Council has organised a number of events during the summer to help keep the kids entertained. These events are fun and help children develop a number of skills in music, art, theatre, reading, animals and the environment.

“I know that myself and my kids are looking forward to solving the Forest Quest mission!"

Forest Quest is a 'marvellous magical madcap mission' run by Theatre of Adventure, an international company specialising in street, interactive and outdoor theatre.

The Whitlingham adventure takes place over a three mile walk lasting about two hours, so suitable clothing and footwear is needed.

There have already been 'mini-quest' promotions in Diss and Harleston market places to give children a taste of what to expect. Two more are planned in Loddon and Wymondham this weekend (August 2).

Before the summer break, some of the characters also visited local middle school assemblies getting children involved in games and challenges, solving riddles and deciphering codes.

The schools involved were Mulbarton Junior, Loddon Junior, St Mary's Long Stratton and Diss Junior school.
