Kick off to £385,000 improvement works at council's three leisure centres
Released on 22 July 2008
By making our Leisure Centres first class and offering popular sport and fitness activities, we will ensure more people get fit and healthy
Councillor Michelle Monck
Work is about to start on a revamp of Long Stratton leisure centre.
It begins in August with work on refurbishing the foyer area, adding soft seating and refreshments.
The current bar area will be transformed into a state of the art "spinning" studio, with top of the range life-fitness spinning bikes.
This new studio, which will result in up to 12 classes per week, will attract around 4,000 new visitors every year.
Councillor Michelle Monck has given the go-ahead for the work as part of the council's strategy of improving facilities and increasing health and fitness for current and new users across the council’s leisure centres.
She said:
"Long Stratton leisure centre has never had an overhaul like this since it was first built. This revamp will see increased activities and fitness machines for local people to use.
"By making our Leisure Centres first class and offering popular sport and fitness activities, we will ensure more people get fit and healthy."
The work at Long Stratton is part of a much wider £385,000 programme of improvements to the council's leisure centres, which include Wymondham and Diss.
This investment will improve the range of leisure opportunities available at our centres, while smartening them up and giving them a professional feel. The focus is helping more people in South Norfolk get fit and healthy.
Designs of the first stages of improvement works are now on display at the leisure centre.
