Dynamism and drive: Councillor Michelle Monck

A South Norfolk Councillor and marketing manager based at Aviva in Norwich has joined the Cabinet team.

Councillor Michelle Monck, aged 30, who represents Tasburgh ward, has been appointed to one of the district council's most diverse Cabinet jobs covering tourism, heritage, enterprise, culture and customer services.

She became a councillor when the new administration took control in the local elections landslide of May 2007, and has been working to improve customer services and communications ever since.

Now she has moved up to Cabinet taking on the tourism, heritage, enterprise and culture role from Hempnall Councillor Michael Windridge.

Council Leader John Fuller said:

“We are trying to give people the sort of service they would expect from the best private companies. Councillor Monck has commercial and marketing expertise and brings a new dynamism and drive to the Cabinet, as we seek to build on what has been a very successful first year in office.

“Her appointment also makes her the first woman on the Cabinet team, and keeps its collective age below 40. That is important if we are to continue to engage with a wide cross-section of our community.

“We are fortunate to have someone of her calibre and business credentials on our leadership team.”

Councillor Monck said:

“I'm really pleased, because although it's a heck of a job title, it is a role that comes with really dynamic and exciting projects. These are projects the residents of South Norfolk can really benefit from - projects they can see and take part in!

“And whether you are taking a dip at one of our leisure centres, playing tennis on the new all-weather pitch at Hobart High School, or helping make a bird box with the kids – look out for more improvements in the year ahead.

“And between May and September next year, we will be bringing together local communities by taking the best south Norfolk has to offer from the arts, music, food and more, and putting it into one fantastic district-wide Festival.

“There's so much to do, and I am delighted to be part of delivering all of these exciting projects.”

Cllr Monck was born in Lincolnshire, and moved to north Suffolk aged nine. She has lived in Norfolk for the past nine years and is married with two young children.

She is a marketing manager at Aviva based in Norwich and before that had roles in the public sector in education and purchasing.

She holds the Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is studying for a Masters in Strategic Marketing.

She is a Governor for Saxlingham Primary School.

When she is not studying, working for Aviva and working the council, her hobbies include gardening, cooking and listening to music.
