Recycle those Christmas trees and cards!
Released on 07 January 2008
Let’s get off to a flying start by recycling as much as we can from Christmas
Councillor David Bills, Cabinet Member for the Environment
Council leaders are urging South Norfolk residents to recycle even more of their real Christmas trees and cards this year.
With Twelfth Night past and the decorations gone, people have a final festive chance to help the environment.
The council has organised two special collections of real Christmas trees: Diss Sports Ground: Saturday 12 January, 10.30am - 1pm, and Loddon Church Plain car park: Saturday 19 January from 10.30am - 1pm.
Councillor David Bills, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:
"2008 is going to be a year of challenge for all of us in the Council particularly within the Environmental group. I would like to think that all of you in South Norfolk have made New Year resolutions to recycle more.
"Let’s get off to a flying start by recycling as much as we can from Christmas.
"I applaud the initiative to carry out these special collections and hope that all, including schools, can make this a great success. Best wishes to you all for a happy 2008 and continuing making South Norfolk a great place to live."
Apart from the special collections, trees can be composted at Norfolk County Council’s Recycling Centres at Bergh Apton, Wymondham, Ketteringham and Morningthorpe.
If the tree fits in a brown garden waste bin, and if you have one from South Norfolk Council, the council will collect it along with holly and mistletoe.
Christmas cards and wrapping paper cannot be recycled in South Norfolk Council's green recycling bins at home.
So, for those who don't reuse cards as gift tags, the Woodland Trust is also recycling cards collected at the following stores: Tescos, WH Smith, TK Maxx or Marks and Spencers.
If you can't get to these stores, cards, envelopes and wrapping paper can be recycled at the 10 South Norfolk Council recycling centres - they should be placed in the blue paper container marked "Whites".
The recycling centres are at: Chequers Inn, Bressingham; Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital; Morrisons Diss; Tescos Harford Bridge; Bullock Fair Car Park near Budgens, Harleston; Kittens Lane near Hobart High, Loddon; Swan Lane car park, Long Stratton; Budgens, Poringland; Waitrose, Wymondham and another at Back Lane, Wymondham.
