South Norfolk's "Chaz and Dave" are dreaming of a Green Christmas!
Released on 03 December 2007
South Norfolk Council's new recycling double act are dreaming of a green Christmas this year!
Councillor David Bills and Direct Services Manager Chaz Scholefield - or South Norfolk's Chaz and Dave as they are now known - got their first billing as recycling gurus in the autumn edition of the council's Link community magazine.
Now with just a few weeks to go before Christmas, they are back with a special festive message as the council prepares to send out its vital bin collection calendar to all 55,000 homes across the district.
Councillor Bills, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:
"We all love a white Christmas, but our changing climate means we seem to see less and less snow on Christmas Day.
"So we still very much need to do our bit for our environment and countryside, and I'm hoping these top tips for a greener Christmas will be useful and welcomed.
"In the meantime look out for our bin collection calendar!"
Chaz Scholefield, who manages the council's bin collection operation from its Ketteringham depot said:
"This has been another important year of recycling, which shows what can be achieved when local people and their local council work together.
“We dreaming of a greener Christmas this year, and we hope our customers find the calendar useful."
All households in South Norfolk should have received their new wheeled bin collection calendar by 3 December, showing waste collections through the year, including the revised Christmas and New Year holiday collections.
Anyone who has not received their calendar can call the council free on 0808 168 3333. In the meantime, posters will appear around the district offering five top tips for a greener Christmas this year.
And here they are:
1 Only buy the food you need this Christmas, the average family throws away a third of the food it buys each year - much of which could have been eaten.
2 Compost all your fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, egg shells and shredded paper at home.
3 Recycle all your empty glass bottles and jars at your nearest South Norfolk mini recycling centre.
4 Compost your real Christmas tree at any of Norfolk County Council’s Recycling Centres. If you have a South Norfolk Council brown garden waste bin and the tree will fit in it, the Council will collect it.
5 Take all your Christmas greetings cards to WHSmith, TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer or Tesco to be recycled separately for the Woodland Trust. They can also be recycled in the paper bank at South Norfolk mini recycling centres.
And finally, Chaz and Dave have asked that we all remember that wrapping paper and Christmas cards cannot be recycled in the green recycling bin!
